Throat Nodules 16. Voice after removal?

Printer-friendly version

I've had throat nodules for quite a while now, for 5-6 years. As a result I've always had a fairly hoarse and quite deep voice. I'm thinking of getting them removed now. If I did get them removed, would my voice become higher? Or would it stay the same.

Anything that you do that changes the weight of the vocal cord will change the comfortable speaking pitch. Since vocal nodules have weight, a person with them will have a deeper pitched voice. Removing them, will typically raise the comfortable speaking pitch. That, of course is a general statement, since it depends on how well they are removed. It also will matter if you have changed your vocal behavior, since nodules will recur if vocal behavior remains the same after surgery.
