Having seen a number of ENT doctors, I have been told that it&#039;s silent reflux and that it&#039;s a condition that I might just have to live with. Is this really the case? I&#039;ve been taking Omeprazole but find that it really isn&#039;t effective. How do you treat these symptoms? I&#039;ve a sulcus vocalis on my (left) vocal cord, I&#039;ve been suffering from it for about 6 years now, the cause is most likely bad usage of the voice in childhood. I&#039;ve been visiting a doctor for the past 3 years now, I did injection twice but it didn&#039;t help eventhough the sulcus is realy small and is very difficult to locate, but its affecting my voice greatly and it makes me get tired very easily after speaking for few minutes straight and hoarsness is very clear and embarsing for me. My Question :-<br /> _ last year, my doctor told me the best news I ever heared in my life, she told me that they found a treatment for sulcus vocalis, I was thrilled, I asked her what it is? she told me that its a new injection founded in japan and its under experiment right now, she says that this injection contains Growth Hormone and will bring the lost tissue back healing the vocal cords, I&#039;m wondering have you heard about it? and what do you think?</p> <p>Thanks a lot!</p> </div></div></div> Tue, 01 Apr 2014 12:03:21 +0000 talb01 1176 at http://old.voicedoctor.net http://old.voicedoctor.net/forum/sulcus-vocalis-new-treatment#comments Hitting highs http://old.voicedoctor.net/forum/hitting-highs <div class="field field-name-taxonomy-forums field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Forums:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" rel="sioc:has_container"><a href="/forums/general-hoarseness" typeof="sioc:Container sioc:Forum" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">General hoarseness</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>Question about hitting highs. However when I started to sing ( I am in a band, I sing and play guitar), I noticed that I could not hit high F or G. When I tried to hit those notes, my voice would break. My voice has progressively become a problem over the last 6 years. It is now quite bad in that it feels weak, raspy and breathy and it is having a huge impact on my life personally and professionaly. I have seen 2 ENT&#039;s over the last 6 years. The first diagnosis was reflux and the second was spasmodic dysphonia, neither medication nor botox injections resolved the voice problem. I am still searching for an accurate diagnosis. </p> <p>What baffles me most of all is the intermittent nature of the problem. My voice seems to be good on some days (usually early on in the week and weekends and really bad on Thursdays and Fridays. Also, my voice returns to normal (within roughly 24 hours) when I am out of the UK on holiday / travelling. There is very little difference in my diet when I am in the UK or away. This makes me wonder whether the problem is mechanical, environmental or psychosomatic or something else entirely.</p> <p>I am asthmatic, I try to use my inhalers as little as possible and gargle after each use.</p> <p>My question are: Which voice conditions present as having intermittent symptoms? Could vocal cord paresis or other mechanical issues be intermittent? Would a 24hr pH test be beneficial?</p> <p>Thanks again</p> <p>Regards</p> </div></div></div> Fri, 14 Sep 2012 16:09:42 +0000 dananimation 884 at http://old.voicedoctor.net http://old.voicedoctor.net/forum/intermittent-hoarseness#comments Voice hoarsness and asthma inhalers http://old.voicedoctor.net/forum/voice-hoarsness-and-asthma-inhalers <div class="field field-name-taxonomy-forums field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Forums:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" rel="sioc:has_container"><a href="/forums/general-hoarseness" typeof="sioc:Container sioc:Forum" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">General hoarseness</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p>Hi, </p> <p>I have an ongoing issue which is really getting me down. I am 32 years old and I have always had a moderately high pitched voice. This doesn&#039;t bother me, however when I take inhaled steroid sprays for asthma, my voice becomes much more weak, breathy, hoarse and even higher in pitch. I struggle to project my voice and it&#039;s a real strain in public settings.<br /> I&#039;ve tried many different steroid preventer inhalers, and they all seem to cause this voice problem. </p> <p>I went to see an Otorhinolaryngologist at the hospital who checked over my vocal chords, he wondered if I may have a bilateral sulcus vergeture, causing the higher pitch, but after several attempts at voice therapy, I was not able to reduce the pitch of my voice. They didn&#039;t seem to concerned about my problems with inhalers, which is a big problem for me as I need to have well controlled asthma and not live in a precarious balance of only taking my preventers when my asthma symptoms worsen..</p> <p>I don&#039;t know if my high pitched voice is in any way related to my inhaler problems but I really want to have controlled asthma and not have a hoarse voice as a result. Is there anything i can do to help? I sound as though I have laryngitis, but my symptoms are not going away or improving with rest or time. I saw an ENT specialist today who looked at my throat and said my vocal cords and throat appear normal. I should also mention that I cannot cough from my diaphragm normally and make a strange gurgling sound instead of a coughing sound when I try. I am confused by my doctor's diagnosis because how can everything be normal if I cannot cough or speak normally? I read about nerve damage to the vocal cords and thought this might be what I am suffering from but my doctor says my cords were moving normally. Can you recommend any follow up tests to help me determine the cause of my problem? Is it possible to have laryngitis or some viral complication for 5 weeks? I look forward to hearing from you. I could really use some advice.</p> <div> Darla McFarlane</div> <div> Age 42</div> <div> Winnipeg, MB, Canada</div> <div> 204-231-2717</div> <div> <a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a></div> </div></div></div> Sat, 07 Apr 2012 21:13:00 +0000 335 at http://old.voicedoctor.net http://old.voicedoctor.net/forum/breathy-weak-voice#comments Voice http://old.voicedoctor.net/forum/voice <div class="field field-name-taxonomy-forums field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Forums:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" rel="sioc:has_container"><a href="/forums/general-hoarseness" typeof="sioc:Container sioc:Forum" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">General hoarseness</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p> </p> <div> Dear Dr.</div> <div> I have a high pitch voice and I have been called many things throughout life and i want</div> <div> to know if it is possible if i did have surgery on my voice that it could be lowered so</div> <div> i sound ver deep?</div> </div></div></div> Sat, 07 Apr 2012 21:06:22 +0000 331 at http://old.voicedoctor.net http://old.voicedoctor.net/forum/voice#comments Possibility of Adam's Apple Injury Crontibuting Factor to Throat Problems? http://old.voicedoctor.net/forum/possibility-adams-apple-injury-crontibuting-factor-throat-problems <div class="field field-name-taxonomy-forums field-type-taxonomy-term-reference field-label-above"><div class="field-label">Forums:&nbsp;</div><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" rel="sioc:has_container"><a href="/forums/general-hoarseness" typeof="sioc:Container sioc:Forum" property="rdfs:label skos:prefLabel" datatype="">General hoarseness</a></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even" property="content:encoded"><p> </p> <div> Dr. Thomas,</div> <div>  </div> <div> I'm 33 yr/male from Honolulu who have been having recurrent throat problems.
