Laser vocal cord tuning

An office laser may be used to tighten up the vocal cords. I have used this treatment technique (previously with the Pulsed Dye Laser and presently with the KTP laser).

Indications for use

  • Tighten up asymmetric vocal cords.
  • Shrink smoker's polyps, which will raise the pitch (Smokers polyp's occur most typically in females and may leave them with a rather deep, masculine voice).
  • Raise the comfortable speaking pitch.

Example

40-year-old female desired a higher pitched voice. She had no pathology on the vocal cords. She could not keep her speaking pitch up easily on her own.

Speaking voice before treatment.

Speaking voice four months after one treatment.

Speaking voice at 13 months (two treatments).

My impression is that her voice rose about one semi-tone after each treatment. It also sounds a bit smoother.
