Heron Haus (Bed & Breakfast)
This not-so-secret hideaway sits just a few blocks above 23rd Avenue, where boutiques and bars draw the pretty people. The 10,000-square-foot ivy-covered mansion was built in 1904 and retains its Victorian charm, although with some contemporary updates. The beautiful grounds offer a swimming pool and hidden orchard, and on clear days, the views of Mts. Hood and St. Helens are magnificent. Oak floors and contemporary furnishings offer a casual elegance. All six bedrooms have private baths, fireplaces and data ports. One even has a spa and sleeping porch. The doting staff serves freshly baked breakfast goodies in the dining room, and this grand old home has plenty of nooks and crannies for taking a nap or reading a good book. Those with an urge to roam can take a stroll through the pleasant neighborhood, trot down the hill to where the action is or catch the streetcar downtown. Room amenities: A/C, TV, dataport, hair dryer, iron, complimentary breakfast.
