I live in India. I was diagnosed with Reinke's Edema and I am a jazz singer. The doctors sent me to a vocal coach to learn vocal exercises. This is supposed to help me regain the notes I have lost on the octave. I an 57, had a hysterectomy 12 years ago, stopped smoking 8 years ago and am willing to do anything to be able to sing :( I don't see any improvement with vocal trills and other exercises.
It would be hard for me to understand how vocal technique could change Reinke's edema which is a fluid collection under the lining of the vocal cords.
I have a video on YouTube regarding surgical removal of smokers polyps (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKqCFa6bE-Q ) although I now also treat them in the office with a laser to reduce them in size. I prefer laser as I can more gently work on reducing the polyps in size.
