Not the same since intubation

Hi there. I am new to the website and an hopeful as I read all of the information provided. I am a singer/songwriter, a communicator, a substitute teacher. I had a beautiful, strong, dynamic and melodic voice, both speaking and singing. I was able to sing across a great range without a break. I had a day surgery Oct 29, 2012 and was not told I would be intubated when put under. I believe this intubation caused harm to my voice. After the surgery my throat was on fire. I tried to rest as much as I could, but returned to speaking/singing a few weeks later. My speaking voice remained hoarse, and is hoarse to this day. When I sang my gigs, I noticed my voice was not the same. I've lost my lower register, and my voice hurts to use. I tried mostly silence for the past 6 weeks, having cancelled all gigs, subbing and speaking. The loss of income is one thing, but the loss of identity in singing and communication is devastating. We have one doctor in my city who is able to assess the voice. He said all he saw was that my left chord looked tense, and acknowledged the test should a lot of inconsistencies in my voice. I'm signed up for four group speech therapy classes. Other than that, I'm not sure what plan I need, or even if my voice can be recovered. As mentioned, I'm devastated and unable to work. Help?
