Treatment for hoarseness

I have the sensation of lump in throat, some problem swallowing and voice changes including hoarseness, reduction in range and breathlessness. My Ent has suggested a trial of 40 mg nexium twice a day for three months.  I do have Gerd as well as myasthenia gravis, fibromyalgia, raynaud and menieres.  Is this trial a good idea?  The examination of vocal cords indicated left side is not vibrating like the right and there is a gap. Thank you for your assistance

In general, hoarseness has to do with the gap between the vocal cords. The larger the gap and the more asymmetric the tension between the vocal cords, the more problems there are with voice quality (hoarseness), vocal range and running out of breath. You could always ask your ENT how Nexium will close the vocal cord gap and if he cannot explain how the medication will close the gap, you could avoid the three-month trial.
